How can we Protect the future of the Oceans, if we do not know their past?
www.shiftingbaselines.org
We do not know, how the Oceans or Earth were, in the past and what we are loosing. “Shifting Baselines”– is a term that indicates loosing awareness, of the changes that happen, when we loose sight, of past points of references” (Baselines) (1).
We accept the closure of coastal areas, sea areas, rivers, lakes due to water pollution.
How many areas of our Rivers, Lakes, or Oceans need to be further declared “Toxic”? Would we do something? We do not realize that these changes, slow yet sure, towards the destruction, of Nature, are irreversible…
“ We can no longer take for granted that we will always have water to drink and that the Oceans will be healthy. We are making the mistake to think that the world is an immutable reality.(1)
For how long do we want to push the rope? The responsibility to do something, today, is Ours!.
